London-based Moonbug Entertainment has issued a round of company-wide layoffs that has affected most of the writing staff and design team on CoComelon, including senior story editor Alan Denton and staff writers Kyra Peters and Nabeel Arshad.

A company spokesperson confirmed the layoffs: “As with any other production, some of Moonbug’s long-term projects have been finalized, as is the case with a few CoComelon pipelines, which means some roles are no longer required. Consequently, as part of a strategic restructure to fuel further growth, a small number of team members have departed the organization.”

At press time, Moonbug could not confirm how many positions were eliminated.

CoComelon is the company’s largest franchise, spanning the original CG-animated series CoComelon Lane for Netflix, a global consumer products program and a huge YouTube fanbase of more than 167 million subscribers who have collectively logged 170 billion views. By comparison, Moonbug’s YouTube channel for Blippi has amassed 18.9 million subscribers and 15 billion views.
