Netflix is strengthening its presence in the preschool market with three new CG-animated series commissions.

The streamer has greenlit Hot Wheels Let’s Race (Mattel Television), Mighty Monsterwheelies (DreamWorks Animation) and Dee & Friends in Oz (9 Story Media Group) to add to its lineup in 2024, along with several new seasons of shows that are already performing well.

Tapping into the toyetic appeal of vehicles, but with a twist, DreamWorks’ Mighty Monsterwheelies is set in an all-vehicle city inspired by Universal’s classic monsters. The series will reimagine timeless thriller icons like Dracula and the Mummy as half-monster, half-truck heroes.

Speaking of vehicles, Mattel is following up its summer of Barbiemania with Hot Wheels Let’s Race, the premise of which centers around young racers engaging in extreme stunt contests and high-adrenaline challenges.

And in fantasy musical series Dee & Friends in Oz, 9 Story is re-telling the classic tale of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Netflix has also picked up seasons three to six of fan-favorite preschool toon Peppa Pig, as well as renewing DreamWorks’ Not Quite Narwhal (season two) and The Creature Cases (season four) from Sony Pictures Television – Kids (formerly Silvergate Media).

And DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse (which already has eight seasons) has received a major show of support from the streamer, which has upped the total episode order to 100. This CG-animated/live-action series premiered in 2021 and has built up a strong viewership. In April, it racked up 383 million minutes of watch-time in the US, according to Nielsen’s streaming top 10.
