Chas Jarrett has been named creative director at London-based animation studio DNEG, where he has been working since 2019 as a senior VFX supervisor.

Replacing Paul Franklin, who remains at the company but in a visual effects consulting capacity, Jarrett now reports to DNEG Group president of VFX and stereo Josh Jaggars.

In his new role, Jarrett will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the studio’s working relationships with its clients and partnering with directors and filmmakers. In addition, he will oversee the development of new and original scripts and support the company’s in-house artists.

Jarrett has more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, including 13 as a production VFX supervisor at well-known companies including Disney, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. Entertainment. At the House of Mouse, he worked on films such as Aladdin (2019), Logan (2017) and both of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes pics (2009 and 2011). Before joining DNEG, he served as a production VFX supervisor on Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of video game Uncharted that was released in February.

Also a software developer, Jarrett is working with an internal team to develop xSTUDIO, a new playback and review tool that DNEG intends to release as an open-source project later this year.

This is DNEG’s latest promotion since the UK studio’s new president Tom Jacomb took the reins in September. His goals are to produce more original content and grow the company’s international presence. Shortly after he was promoted, the studio hired DreamWorks alum Kara Oropallo as its new VP of training, outreach and artistic development.
