BBC Children’s and Education has put out a call for animated TV series concepts from UK creators/producers that it may develop and commission as part of its Ignite Animation program.

Applicants should get their submissions in online by February 8, 2024. The Beeb is interested in concepts for kids of all ages with stories, settings and characters that represent the UK’s culture and values.

Ignite is open to all types of producers, including animation studios, collectives and individual creators above the age of 18. Selected applicants will have a chance to co-develop their concepts with the BBC, and there’s the potential of a series order at the end of the process.

This is the program’s second cycle after launching in 2021. The BBC received more than 1,000 pitches the first time around, shortlisting three series concepts this summer: Duck and Frog from Bristol’s Sun & Moon, Captain Onion’s Buoyant Academy for Wayward Youth from Belfast-based Alt Animation, and The Underglow from indie creators Sam Morrison and Tanya Scott. They are all currently in the process of being commissioned.
