Corus’ kids networks each have their own identity and the Canadian broadcaster targets kids two to 12 across its trio of channels.
YTV targets kids six to 12, and to encourage co-viewing the network is looking for primetime, live-action 22-minute single and multi-cam comedy series that feature diverse casts. It’s also looking for adventure dramas that can fit alongside superhero fare, including Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger, says Corus' director of kids programming for kids, Katie Wilson.
Overall, the channel is looking to “cultivate a shared experience with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion”, says Wilson. One of Corus’ goals is to build YTV’s primetime programming with fresh stories containing unique perspectives that reflect Canada’s diverse population, she adds. Teletoon, is seeking gender neutral, rambunctious, irreverent and zany animated 11-minute comedies for six to 11s, which can air alongside adventure comedies such as Steven Universe, Teen Titans Go! and Unikitty!
Treehouse, Corus’ preschool channel, is focused on offering preschoolers (ages two to five) engaging, charming and fun programming, says Wilson. The channel is still acquiring live-action and animated content, and has added Spin Master’s educational series Rusty Rivets, Pocket.watch’s Ryan’s Mystery Playdate and Nickelodeon’s new mixed-media series Blue’s Clues & You! to its lineup. The channel has also been building its musical catalogue, and it started airing Nelvana’s series of animated musical shorts titled Toon Bops (21 x 90 seconds), last year.
