Looking For

  • The tech giant has so far stayed quiet on what it’s after for the platform. But a glimpse into what it’s picked up so far could help producers figure out what is best to pitch.

On the kids side, content has skewed towards well-known IPs, including Sesame and Peanuts Worldwide, and to a lesser extent Ghost Writer. (On the adult side content has been fronted by well-known talent like Jennifer Anniston, Oprah and Steven Spielberg).

On the lesser-known IPs front, it has also picked up the yet-to-be-released Cartoon Saloon animated film Wolfwalkers, which should come out this year. Apple is also creating a 36-minute animated film Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth, which premiered mid-April. It is based on a New York Times bestselling book of the same name by Oliver Jeffers, who Apple kids exec Tara Sorensen said to Kidscreen in 2017 (when she was at Amazon) she wanted to work with because, “I think he’s got a really interesting point of view and he’s obviously a fan of kids. His books are stunningly beautiful.”

Producers who have chatted with Kidscreen have said Apple is generally looking for content that aligns with the tech co’s brand values, which includes making technology accessible to all, supporting schools and education, caring for the environment and celebrating diversity and inclusion.
