Spin Master has appointed Max Rangel as its new global president, effective starting in January 2021. And in April 2021, Rangel will add CEO responsibilities to his remit.

Rangel joins Spin Master from SC Johnson, where he most recently served as SVP and president of lifestyle brands for international markets. He has also held positions with The Hershey Company and Procter & Gamble.

Spin Master’s co-founders and current co-CEOs Ronnen Harary and Anton Rabie will work with Rangel during a transition period before stepping down. They will both continue in their roles on the board in 2021, with a focus on long-term strategy. The company’s third co-founder, Ben Varadi, will continue in his role as CCO.

Global president and COO Ben Gadbois, along with EVP of global operations and CIO Bill Hess, stepped down in February. Gadbois had been in his position since 2012 and played a big part in the company’s acquisitions strategies, including the US$79-million purchase of US plush manufacturer Gund.

In addition to establishing a new president and CEO for the company, Spin Master also announced a plan for  leadership succession in an effort to focus on continued expansion, setting up three new creative centers—toys, entertainment and digital games—to be led by promoted execs starting in January.

Chris Beardall, currently serving as EVP of global sales, will become president of the toys business. Jennifer Dodge, currently EVP of entertainment, will ascend to president of Spin Master entertainment, overseeing content development, production and distribution globally. And Fredrik Loving, who recently joined Spin Master as EVP of digital studios, will be president of Spin Master digital games.
