The UK’s Serious Kids has closed several distribution deals for the CG-animated spooky special The Ghastly Ghoul, from Dream Logic Animation Studios and Lupus Films.

Disney Channel and Disney XD (US) picked up the 30-minute special, which will begin airing in October. This marks the comedy’s US premiere.

Other broadcasters that recently picked up the special include TVO and Télé-Québec (Canada), TVNZ (New Zealand), PCCW (Hong Kong), RTBF (Belgium), RTS (Switzerland), LRT (Lithuania), RTVS (Slovakia), RTP (Portugal) and NRK (Norway). Since becoming The Ghastly Ghoul’s distributor last October, Serious Kids has also sold the special to Canal+, KMBO (France), YLE (Finland), DR (Denmark) and SVT (Sweden).

Aimed at kids ages five to seven, the special is about a cute little monster trapped in the human world, who teams up with a young girl to find his way home. It premiered in October 2022 on Sky Kids (UK) and KiKa (Germany).

The show has gained international attention because it fills a gap in buyers’ catalogues for contemporary, independently produced seasonal productions, says Serious Kids founder and CEO Genevieve Dexter

Emma Hogan (Alva’s World) wrote The Ghastly Ghoul, which was directed by Kealan O’Rourke (The Christmas Letter) and Maurizio Parimbelli (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), with Corinne Ladeinde (Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire) as AD. Brian Willis (The Lost Letter) and Stephen Smith produced it, with Ruth Fielding and Camilla Deakin (A Christmas Number One) on board as executive producers.
