Warner Bros. Discovery has removed channels including Cartoon Network, HBO and Discovery from MNC, one of the largest broadcasters in Indonesia.
The channels were dropped from MNC on May 12, but they are still available in the region via Indihome and First Media.
“Warner Bros. Discovery has made the difficult decision to suspend the broadcast of its channels to long-time partner MNC over unresolved contractual issues,” says a WBD spokesperson. “We hope this situation can be rectified promptly. We remain committed to our linear networks across Southeast Asia, and the channels continue to be available on other platforms in Indonesia.”
MNC has filled the holes in its service with UK pay-TV channel operator Mimyuni’s nets, including Cinemachi Kids, which offers animated and live-action feature films such as Song of the Sea, Hook and Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
With an estimated 70 million children (a quarter of its total population), Indonesia has been getting more attention from global kidcos recently. Earlier this year, Moonbug inked a deal with OTT service Vidio to stream all of its content in the country, and Indonesian broadcaster RTV has been in the market for content in a big way lately, picking up seasons of Winsing’s animated series Gogo Bus, eOne’s Transformers: EarthSpark and WAU Animation/Primeworks Studios’ CG-animated film Ejen Ali: The Movie.
