BBC Studios has named former Paramount exec Lawrence Szabo as its new EVP of US content distribution.
Szabo’s remit is to set up sales and co-production deals for BBC’s content with American streamers and linear nets, with a focus on scripted and factual programming. Hit series under his care include, Doctor Who and Planet Earth.
At Paramount Global, Szabo worked in acquisitions for heavy-hitting channels and platforms such as Nickelodeon, Paramount+, Pluto TV and Showtime. Prior to that, he served in a variety of sales roles at Lionsgate and MGM. Szabo is based in LA and reports to Janet Brown, BBC Studios’ president of content distribution in North America and Latin America.
