ViacomCBS has ordered a new 20-episode live-action tween comedy from Australia’s Northern Pictures, which will receive an undisclosed amount of Screen Australia’s latest funding round valued at US$2.3 million.

Based on a best-selling book series by Tristan Bancks, Tom Weekly Versus… will see the titular 10-year-old wreak havoc on his family and neighborhood. The creative team includes Northern Pictures’ co-development heads Joe Weatherstone and Darren Ashton, executive producer Catherine Nebauer and writers Guy Edmonds, Matt Zeremes and Amy Stewart. Screen New South Wales is providing additional financing and ViacomCBS Networks International is handling international sales.

Netflix’s previously announced live-action Aussie surfing series Surviving Summer (pictured) from Werner Film Productions (Dance Academy) and Germany’s ZDF Enterprises also received an undisclosed portion of the funding. The 10-episode series tells the story of a teenager from New York who catches the competitive surfing bug when she’s sent to live with family friends in Australia.

Additionally, a new 26-episode second season of ABC ME animated series 100% Wolf called “The Book of Hath” from Flying Bark Productions will grab a slice of the funding pie. The new season of 100% Wolf  is also being supported by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation and Screenwest. Studio 100 Media has the international distribution rights to the series.

Aussie prodco Cheeky Little Media grabbed the fourth, and final, portion of funding for a new double-length “Summer Special” episode for its ABC Kids iview animated show Kangaroo Beach.

The new Screen Australia funding comes on the heels of the org backing new live-action family feature Staycation from Ludo Studio.
