Deals of the Week: Vikings, magic and mental health

RAI picks up a co-viewing project that helps kids understand depression.

The French studio has locked in a distributor for a pair of its 2D-animated series: Viking Skool (26 x 22 minutes) and Once Upon a Time…Objects (78 x seven minutes). UK-based distributor Jetpack has acquired worldwide rights, excluding France, to both the series, which are aimed at kids ages six to 10. Viking Skool (pictured), a co-pro with Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, follows a group of friends training to be future vikings, while Objects is a co-pro with France’s Procidis and is based on its Once Upon a Time IP. The edutainment series features historical characters and scientific knowledge presented in a comedic style.

The Paris-based prodco/distributor has inked several international sales for Tara Duncan (52 x 13 minutes), which is aimed at kids ages six to nine. Pubcasters RTÉ (Ireland), TVNZ (New Zealand) and Télé-Québec (Canada) picked up the CG-animated series, which is an adaptation of the YA book series about a young magic wielder, written by Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian.

Dandelooo

The French prodco/distributor has sold its 2D-animated short film Mum is pouring rain (pictured) to Italian broadcaster RAI. The 2021 special about a girl whose mother struggles with depression, is aimed at kids ages six to 11 and co-viewing audiences. The deal was finalized by Gennarino Romano, international sales and acquisitions manager at Dandelooo. The 26-minute short was commissioned by Canal+ and is a co-pro between Dandelooo and Laïdak Films, which is based in France and Germany.
