Super RTL takes a ride on the Monster Foodie Truck

This popular Sesame Street segment is getting its own series in Germany to strengthen the brand's local market presence and teach kids about cooking and nutrition.

Sesame Workshop’s hungriest character is suiting up with his apron and spatula for a new standalone series targeting the German market.

Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck with Steffen Henssler (13 x 22 minutes) is based on a regular segment of Sesame Street that features Cookie Monster and his chef pal, Gonger. German kidsnet Super RTL and its RTL+ streaming platform are co-producing the series with Cologne-based prodco MOVEME (Otto Total).

The spinoff tags along with the Muppet duo as they learn about food—from how ingredients are grown, to how meals are prepared. And it will be locally customized with the casting of star German chef Henssler as their human helper.

Like the segment it’s based on, Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck is all about making kids more knowledgeable about healthy foods, home cooking and sustainability, says Stefan Kastenmüller, Sesame Workshop’s European GM.

The new series will launch in spring 2023 on RTL+ and Super RTL, and the broadcaster’s in-house licensing team will manage its consumer products business in Germany.

Sesame Workshop is on a mission to promote kid health. Earlier this week, the company teamed up with New Jersey-based medical lab Quest Diagnostics for a multi-year program in the US to reduce healthcare disparities in low-income and rural communities with educational initiatives and sponsored free testing services.
