French animation studio Dandelooo has partnered with new start-up distributor Midolala, which is focused on bringing international content into China.
Midolala will initially work on setting up co-production deals and securing pre-sales in China for everything Dandelooo has in development and production, including The Upside Down River (eight x 22 minutes) for eight to 12s and preschool series Billy the Cowboy Hamster (52 x 11 minutes). The studio is also working on a yoga series called Loguis and Let’s Go Gaston! for kids ages four to seven, plus preschool series The Treehouse Stories (pictured, 103 x seven minutes), 26-minute comedy special Mum is Pouring Rain and 52-minute feature Houdini.
Xilam Animation’s former business development lead for China, Manya Zhou, established Midolala earlier this year, backed by the experience and relationships she built up in the region selling Lupin’s Tales, Where’s Chicky? and Car City on Xilam’s behalf.
On its own steam, Dandelooo closed two Chinese deals in March 2022, selling Shooom’s Odyssey to UYoung Media and EBS Korea, as well as Jar Dwellers SOS and short series 1 Minute in a Museum to Beijing Joy Culture Media. And its series The Treehouse Stories was picked up by regional distributor Jetsen Huashi for co-production with Youku Kids in 2019.
