UK broadcaster Channel 5 is refreshing the menu for its Milkshake! preschool block with two greenlights and an acquisition.

First up, it has commissioned CG toon Stan & Gran (pictured top) from London’s Jellyfish Originals and Brighton-based Jolly Wise. This 52 x 11-minute series follows a nature-loving boy and his grandmother as they investigate strange happenings in a fictional coastal village in Britain.

Animal Care Club (25 x 11 minutes, pictured below) from Toronto’s eOne Unscripted has also been greenlit. A factual live-actioner revolving around young animal-lovers who help experts such as veterinarians and zookeepers care for wild and domestic critters, the show will deliver educational content (like wildlife behaviors) while also teaching kids how to be kind to animals.

These commissions align with a nature-adjacent programming strategy that’s currently in play at Milkshake!, according to Paramount UK’s kids content GM Louise Bucknole in an April interview with Kidscreen. Bucknole, who oversees the block, said there is a demand in the UK for environmentally savvy content that showcases the outdoors.

Milkshake! is rounding out its lineup with the addition of Chip & Potato, a 2D-animated series acquired from Canadian prodco WildBrain Studios and British indie Darrall Macqueen. This 40 x 11-minuter sees a pug puppy navigating the highs and lows of kindergarten with her unlikely BFF, a tiny mouse. WildBrain premiered the toon on Family Jr. in 2018, and Netflix picked it up in 2019.
