WildBrain has secured new distribution deals for the CG-animated series The Deep, which it co-produces with Australia’s A Stark Production and Singapore’s Infinite Studios.

RTÉ (Ireland) picked up the third and fourth seasons, France Télévisions acquired season four, and NRK (Norway) bought seasons one, two and four. Meanwhile, Rockbot (USA) secured the first season and Club Illico (Canada) got seasons one and two.

The Deep (65 x 30 minutes) is based on a series of graphic novels by Tom Taylor and published by KaBOOM!. Aimed at kids ages eight to 12, the series follows a family of explorers who live aboard a submarine and unravel mysteries in the ocean’s depths.

Public broadcaster ABC Australia commissioned the show in 2013 and launched it in 2015. Since then, more than 100 broadcasters worldwide have purchased the series, including Mediacorp in Singapore and Super RTL in Germany. The Deep‘s fourth season premiered on ABC in June 2022.

In addition to broadcast sales, the show’s producers are also diving into new consumer products. BMS Brands Australia launched a line of The Deep 3D puzzles for kids five and up via Amazon, and rolling out to Mr. Toys stores across Australia in September. And the show’s Australian distributor, Australian Children’s Television Foundation, has teamed up with the Australian National Maritime Museum to launch digital educational resources based on the series, which focus on teaching science, technology, sustainability and the English language.
