HBO Max and Cartoon Network have ordered Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups (pictured), a new CG-animated series slated for a 2024 release on the Cartoonito preschool block.

The adventure-comedy marks the iconic sleuthing franchise’s first-ever preschool-skewing series. Set at sleepaway camp, the story sees best friends Scooby and Shaggy working as camp counselors and solving mysteries with a new crew of pups.

Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Showrunner Mark Palmer (Treehouse Detectives) serves as co-EP with Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. Erik Knutsen is also attached to the project as supervising producer.

Meanwhile, six new specials for Cloudco Entertainment’s animated series Care Bears: Unlock the Magic have also been greenlit to join Cartoonito’s lineup.

The series launched on the Boomerang SVOD in 2019 and is produced by LA-based Cloudco, owner of the Care Bears IP. The license for season one (48 x 11 minutes) and attached specials (two x 22 minutes) were recently extended into early 2027 for US linear and streaming.

The upcoming six x 22-minute specials are now in production, with no release date details available yet.

Both the Scooby-Doo series and the Care Bears specials build on Cartoonito’s focus on “human-centric learning,” which teaches preschoolers about confidence, kindness and how to be the best version of themselves, according to a release.

The new content is also part of a larger push at Cartoonito for new preschool content based on legacy characters. Last year, for example, it was announced that the first-ever Tom and Jerry preschool series was being developed for the block.
