Warner Bros. Discovery’s new super-streamer Max has ordered Atomic Cartoons’ 2D-animated series Mermicorno: Starfall for an exclusive US launch in 2025.

Inspired by LA-based retailer tokidoki’s half fish/half unicorn toys, the 26 x 22-minute adventure-comedy for five- to nine-year-olds centers around a team of aquatic creatures working together to defend the ocean from an evil threat.

Mermicorno: Starfall is currently in production, with Atomic parentco Thunderbird’s Jennifer Twiner McCarron and Matthew Berkowitz and Atomic’s Aaron Behl on board as executive producers. Writer Shea Fontana is also an EP alongside Tokidoki’s Simone Legno and Pooneh Mohajer.

Tokidoki launched the Mermicorno vinyl collectibles in 2015 and has since expanded the brand into collectibles, apparel and accessories. Atomic Cartoons teamed up with the retailer to develop a series in 2019, with Legno and Fontana (Polly Pocket) creating the concept.

Thunderbird Distribution is managing global sales for Mermicorno: Starfall, as well as co-managing its consumer products rights with tokidoki. They are planning to present the series to potential partners at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas next month.
