CBeebies is launching Numberblocks, a new animated series that complements the long-running BAFTA-nominated toon Alphablocks.

The 30 x five-minute series will air twice daily on weekdays starting January 23.

In using animated characters to teach numeracy, Numberblocks follows a similar premise to Alphablocks, which has been airing on CBeebies for seven years.

Numberblocks is made in partnership with the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching of Mathematics, and is aimed at children ages three to six. It is owned by Alphablocks, a joint-venture between Joe Elliot and Blue Zoo Animation Studio.

The announcement of the new show follows CBeebies’ recent renewal for season two of Coolabi’s preschool series the Clangers and commissioning 25 new 11-minute episodes of Twirlywoos. CBeebies also recently launched its content on Zuku TV in East Africa.
