Aardman Animations’ international sales and acquisitions arm has been appointed to represent new preschool series Interstellar Ella (pictured) globally.

Co-produced by the UK’s Tinker Labs, Belgium’s Grid Animation and Apartment 11 in Canada, the 52 x 11-minute CGI-animated series aims to familiarize kids ages four to seven and their families with the basics of astronomy and astrophysics.

On track for launch in Q4 2020, the series has already been picked up by CBeebies (UK), VRT (Belgium), and TVO, TFO and Knowledge Network in Canada. Presales had already been inked before Aardman’s involvement with ABC (Australia) and Hop! (Israel).

Aardman has also picked up international distribution rights to Alphablocks’ preschool shows Alphablocks and Numberblocks. Animated by UK studio Blue Zoo, both shows use humor and music to engage kids in learning about letters and numbers.

CBeebies recently ordered two more seasons of Numberblocks, which launched on the pubcaster in early 2017, bringing the tally up to three.

And Aardman will continue to represent Munki and Trunk, a non-dialogue CGI series produced by South Africa’s Sunrise Productions. New episodes of the 52 x seven-minute show recently launched on its YouTube channel. Munki and Trunk is the first third-party series that Aardman has launched on YouTube, and the company is now working with select partners on a YouTube strategy in key territories.

The Brit prodco recently bolstered its YouTube content output with the launch of a new AardBoiled channel, which kicked off with a string of animated videos co-produced by FableVision and new indie Lanky Co.
