DreamWorks Animation Television president Margie Cohn is taking on a new additional role as president of DreamWorks Animation (DWA) and will now oversee both film and television operations. The two production units will continue to operate separately under Cohn’s oversight, with the expectation that two animated features will be released each year, beginning with How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World and Abominable in 2019. Additional titles in production include Trolls World Tour, The Croods 2 and The Boss Baby 2.

Cohn joined DreamWorks in 2013 when it was just getting into TV content, and the studio has inked landmark deals with Netflix (this multi-year exclusive partnership was the largest original first-run content agreement in the streamer’s history when it was signed in 2013, and the companies recently signed a deal for three new original shows), Amazon Prime Video and Hulu (its largest kids and family content buy to date) during her tenure. Under Cohn, DWA TV has produced hit series including Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, All Hail King Julien, Dragons: Race to the Edge, The Boss Baby: Back in Business, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Spirit Riding Free, Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and She-Ra and the Princess of Power.

Before joining DreamWorks, Cohn served in various development and production roles over the course of a 26-year career at Nickelodeon.

Current DreamWorks Feature Animation Group president Chris deFaria will leave the company after the global rollout of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which is set to premiere State-side in February. In 2016, NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation for US$3.8 billion, and deFaria played a key role in the integration of DreamWorks Animation and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. Moving forward, deFaria will continue to consult with Comcast NBCUniversal on a number of special initiatives.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri will continue to support the company as senior advisor, overseeing the reimagining of the Shrek franchise. And Illumination exec Latifa Ouaou is spearheading development on the Puss in Boots sequel.
