In a move that strengthens its global kids and family channel portfolio, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is set to debut Nick Jr. and Nicktoons in South Africa via MultiChoice-owned digital pay-TV platform DStv.

Both 24-hour nets will begin broadcasting from September 30, with Nick Jr. offered on DStv’s Premium package (channel 307) and Nicktoons available via DStv’s Family, Compact, Extra and Premium packages (channel 308).

DStv viewers in South Africa will be able to access popular Nick Jr. preschool shows including Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies, Go, Diego, Go! and Paw Patrol, as well as new series launching next year such as Dora & Friends, Blaze and the Monster Machines and Shimmer & Shine.

Nicktoons’ programming lineup will feature hit animated series for kids ages four to nine and families, including The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Fanboy & Chum Chum and Rugrats.

With its eight brands (the others are Nickelodeon, MTV, MTV Base, Comedy Central, VH1 Classic and BET International), VIMN Africa now claims to provide more TV channels on the continent than any other international media company.

They now collectively reach more than 100 million viewers in more than 50 territories in sub-Saharan Africa through a combination of pay-TV, terrestrial, CATV and IPTV networks.
