Netflix has inked a global deal for streaming rights to Nippon Television’s unscripted series Old Enough!, which has been airing in Japan for more than 30 years.

Each episode of the 20 x 30-minute show centers around a child or siblings who are sent out on everyday errands (such as buying food from the supermarket) by themselves. According to Nippon, parents are involved in the episode planning, each errand is based on research to ensure its age-appropriateness, and the trip is monitored at all times by hidden cameras and “the show’s safety team, who are disguised as joggers, passersby or gardeners [and] never more than a few steps away.”

Old Enough! launched today on Netflix in more than 190 countries, with subtitles in 32 languages.

The format rights for international adaptations are available from Nippon TV.

In other recent Netflix news, the streamer bought five new animated Dr. Seuss series and specials, as well as making a two-season commitment to a pair of CG-animated preschool shows from DreamWorks Animation that will launch in 2023.
