Encantos is launching a collection of non-fungible tokens inspired by its bilingual preschool property Canticos. They’ll launch in February, marking the first release of NFTs from a creator on the LA-based edutainment company’s platform.

Artist Susie Jaramillo (creator of the Canticos portfolio of characters) is behind this batch of NFTs, which will feature Kiki Chickie, one of the brand’s three lead characters, paying homage to female pop culture icons. Canticos was designed to help children learn in English and Spanish, based on the nursery rhymes, songs and stories Jaramillo grew up with in Latin America.

The NFT launch marks the beginning of a new phase of development for Encantos, whose upcoming projects span an animated series, expanded consumer products, publishing, events and a virtual metaverse experience. The company’s goal moving forward—and in the NFT space, in particular—is to empower its creators to build and own their IPs, says CEO Steven Wolfe Pereira. For example, the company’s recently launched Encantos app features “storyworld” channels where creators can connect directly with kids.

To keep pace with this growth, Encantos recently appointed Scott Traylor as chief product officer to oversee product development. And it also partnered with LA-based 3Pas Studios last year to develop new IPs branded as Encantos Originals.
